Dr. Alma Gonzalez de Castillo is a native of Laredo, Texas and is committed to serving communities in Texas and across the nation as a lifetime educator. Dr. Gonzalez de Castillo currently serves and leads a team of talented principals as assistant superintendent of schools in the Pflugerville Independent School District. Her educational career spans 20 years with experience in K-12 education as well as organizational leadership. In her current role, she contributed to the passing of the Teacher Incentive Allotment, which increased the earning power of teachers. Dr. Gonzalez de Castillo also supported the implementation of the Newcomer Academy welcoming students from Central and South America. Additionally, she has led boundary alignment parent meetings and pioneered a mentoring program for high school male students. She consistently collaborates in the development of campus leadership, instructional support, and learning plans leading to student growth and excellence. Her experience and leadership with low-performing schools and bilingual education have led to the academic success of several Title 1 campuses in central Texas and along the Texas/Mexico border. Her proudest moment was in 2019, when she led a low-performing Title 1 campus to become a National Blue Ribbon School.
Dr. Gonzalez de Castillo graduated from the University of Texas in San Antonio with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in bicultural studies. She earned a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction with a focus in leadership from Texas A&M International University. In December of 2023, she earned her Doctor of Education in learning and organizational change from Baylor University, where she was admitted to the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society for her outstanding academic achievement and educational contributions.
