Right before the Frost Middle School begins their Winter Vacation, students and teachers battle in the annual, "Student-Teacher Basketball Game".  This year, like all in the past, was a hard fought struggle for both sides.  Both students and teachers played their hardest and displayed good sportsmanship.  In the end though, the teachers again emerged victorious!  Besides the game, there were contests for the students where they could win prizes.  Great fun was had by all involved and the teachers and this years 7th grade class are already looking forward to next years contest!
Please be aware, Lawrence Public Schools is preparing for weather emergencies. In an effort to safeguard our students and staff, LPS will be implementing two new weather-related policies:
  • 2-Hour Delayed Opening for Students
  • Early Dismissal for Students
If the Superintendent implements either of these policies, staff and students will be notified by:
local media outlets(TV and radio), Connect Ed message to your home, and the LPS website.
Again this year, the Lawrence Fire Department and Jed Koehler, Executive Director of the Greater Lawrence Community Boating, came to the Frost Middle Middle School to discuss with students and staff the importance of water safety.  Especially during this time of year when thin ice on lakes and rivers can deceive children and adults alike, they stressed the importance of taking all precautions when going out on the ice.  The statistics are very troubling: Every year in the United States, over 8,000 people die from drowning.  Our students are now well informed and will take every precaution to avoid themselves and their friends from going out on thin ice.
Recently, the 7th and 8th grade students at the Robert Frost Middle School went on a field trip to the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse through the Discovering Justice program.  Students were given a tour of the courthouse and then went into a courtroom to participate in a mock trial in an Appellate Court.  The grade 7 students focused on the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, whereas the 8th graders focused on the 1st Amdentment.  Students worked in groups to formulate their arguments and take up the roles as the prosecutors and the defense, while being "judged" by attorneys and staff.  Much was learned and this gave students an eye opening experience to our judicial system and Constitutional law.
On Wednesday, November 26th, The Robert Frost Middle School hosted the finals for the 3 vs. 3 Hoops for Heart Basketball Tournament to raise awareness for heart disease and heart health.  Congratulations to all participants across all grade levels.  The students showcased their amazing basketball talent and their incredible dedication to raising awareness for this important issue that can affect all of us! It was also, "Jeans Day" that raise money for the American Heart Association.  Thank you to students and staff for your most generous donations!
