Group of students giving thumbs up.

THANK YOU to LPS staff & emergency responders, both for your support in the past few days and the great work that will be required in the days and weeks ahead. This city and our families have proven to be amazingly resilient, and they’re lucky to have all of you working every day on their behalf. Your commitment to helping our students get back to learning – even if it may still be a while before everything else gets back to normal – is a vital part of this community’s recovery.

Superintendent Paris with students in classroom

Students at the Lawrence High School were greeted by our new Superintendent, Cynthia Paris, as they arrived for the first day of school. She was welcomed to the District as she visited classrooms and toured the campus. We wish her all the best as she begins her work here in Lawrence.

The Leonard Bernstein Centennial Festival kicked off the public performances with In the Heights starring a terrific cast from around the region. This is a great opportunity from now until August 25 to see wonderful live theater right here in Lawrence. The Festival will perform In the Heights, West Side Story and On the Town. Tickets for the shows are $12 general public, $10 students and seniors. Concert performances of On the Town are FREE! Click here for Festival photos.

Enjoy the chance to see some local talent shine during this celebration of the 100th birthday of Lawrence's own, Leonard Bernstein. Click here for details on performance dates.
