participants at Job Fair standing and talking

Lawrence Working Families Initiative (LWFI) collaborated with ValleyWorks (Masshire) on hosting their First Annual Job Fair this school year. We had over 75 participants most of which were LPS parents. We had 7 Employers from different sectors and 3 organizations that provided extended job readiness support to our parents. Parents were able to network, meet potential employers who are hiring Spanish speaking individuals, and find local job opportunities.

Group discussion at table during event

Positive, working relationships between schools and families were celebrated at the recent Partnership Council Meeting. The theme was "Learn, Connect, Celebrate and Be a Partnership Hero". Six unique school programs that have been successful connecting with parents were highlighted and great new ideas were shared.

Group of students giving thumbs up.

THANK YOU to LPS staff & emergency responders, both for your support in the past few days and the great work that will be required in the days and weeks ahead. This city and our families have proven to be amazingly resilient, and they’re lucky to have all of you working every day on their behalf. Your commitment to helping our students get back to learning – even if it may still be a while before everything else gets back to normal – is a vital part of this community’s recovery.

Superintendent Paris with students in classroom

Students at the Lawrence High School were greeted by our new Superintendent, Cynthia Paris, as they arrived for the first day of school. She was welcomed to the District as she visited classrooms and toured the campus. We wish her all the best as she begins her work here in Lawrence.
