2 Students examining what they find in the buckets attached to trees

A couple of weeks ago, Guilmette 5th graders paid another visit to our friends at Quarrybrook. During this field trip, students were focusing on how organisms change from season to season. They discussed hibernation cycles and how temperature and weather affects how plants and animals react to their surroundings.

They put this knowledge into practice when they worked together to extract sap from maple trees. They got to taste the raw, watery sap, and then they observed how it was boiled down to create organic maple syrup! We hope that our students can take this knowledge back with them to inform how they live their lives every day, and we are so grateful to Quarrybrook for helping us learn more about the world around us!
