Our students and parents/guardians were nominated for the January and February Character Traits Awards. We had the celebration this week and it was a great turn out. Teachers were asked to nominate students and parents/guardians who showed these character traits throughout the month of January and February. The character trait for the month of January was Encouraging and for February it was Prepared.

This past March was National Development Disabilities Month and we are using this to Segway into our focus on celebrating our unique differences. Every classroom will be reading different books about the importance of kindness and about students with disabilities breaking barriers and overcoming stereotypes. Every week is focused on a different (dis) ABILITY and we are including events such as the visit from the Lawrence Police Department Autism Awareness Patrol Car and Therapy Dog Oliver, and movies such as Nemo and Wonder (which are both about physical disabilities) to support our readings in class.
