High School Learning Center Events

HLC Fall Family Night

The High School Learning Center held its annual Fall Family Night on Tuesday, October 29.

Students and their families had the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff over dinner, games, face-painting, and other fun activities.

In other HLC news, we now have our own JROTC. Staff members made egg sandwiches for the students on the last day of Term 1. Our advisory program is in full swing with fun and fruitful activities based around PBIS. We also held our monthly Town Hall to award students for their accountability.

Check out our school photo gallery to see pics of all of these fun school events.

HLC Beach

Students from the High School Learning Center participated in a team building event with staff members at Salisbury Beach State Reservation on Friday, September 20.

Faculty and students participated in many events at the beach including football, volleyball, grilling, s'more eating, swimming, and badminton. The activities encouraged students and staff to get to know each other and build relationships.

The HLC community bonded throughout the day. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather during our first bonding trip as a school. As we embark on the rest of our 2019-20 school year, we now have fun and exciting memories as well as a strong foundation of meaningful relationships to build upon.

Check out the HLC Photo Gallery to see photos from this event as well as our 2019-20 student orientation, and advisory classes.

HLC Staff

Teachers from the High School Learning Center participated in a professional learning opportunity over the summer. Instructors from Suffolk University led the HLC Teachers though an advanced training on Restorative Justice Circles. This is a practice we will be using for the second year in our daily advisory classes.

For more information on the practices we use at HLC involving Restorative Justice and RJ Circles, check out the documentary Circle Up

Have a great 2019-20 school year!

HLC Students Graduate

Students graduated from the High School Learning Center on Friday, May 31 along with their peers from the main Lawrence High School campus.

Despite facing some challenges throughout their academic journeys, the HLC graduating class of 2019 crossed the stage with honor and grace.

We are also looking forward to another graduation ceremony in early August. Please check out our photo gallery to see photos from the graduation ceremony and other school events.

HLC Acceleration Academy

The High School Learning Center held Acceleration Academy during April vacation.

Students earned valuable credits towards graduation and received some important practice for MCAS exams.

Instructors were honored with the Sontag Prize in Urban Education.

In other school news, HLC students attended College for a Day at Northern Essex Community College on April 10.

Students had the opportunity to sit it on college classes, tour the campus, and learn about financial aid on this annual trip to the Haverhill campus.

The HLC held its annual Future Planning Fair back on March 21 when students had the opportunity to speak with representatives from colleges and trade schools in the area.
