Adults with Children Smiling

Congratulations to INT’s Sarah Cordero, who received a citation award for her work as a Project Bread Teacher Champion. In partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Project Bread has funded grants to “teacher champions” who work to expand access to school breakfasts.

Sarah Cordero received the Teacher Champion grant award at the end of last year, for her “Helping Hands” food pantry project, which is off to a great start at INT.  From the beginning, Sarah involved her students with the pantry, brainstorming ideas about what foods should be stocked, and having the students help stock the pantry on an ongoing basis. Students have access to the pantry throughout the day. The pantry also lets students take food home over the weekend if they need it.

"I know for many students Friday is supposed to be a fun, exciting day but some students dread it -- maybe they're going home to something they don't want to go home to...or they won't have food for the next two days," Sarah said. Sarah has also been recently interviewed by Blue Cross Blue Shield for her work.

Thank you, Sarah, for everything you are doing for our students. We are very proud of you!
