OPS Teacher Messages

Dear OPS Families,

We hope you and your family are safe and healthy.  The OPS faculty have been working to execute the OPS Remote Learning plan based on the guidelines established by the Commissioner of Education.  We have been asked to maintain consistency within each grade level. Teachers have also been asked to engage with students individually. The new guidelines were issued last Thursday and since then we have met with all faculty and staff collectively and reviewed the information to ensure that we have a common understanding.  We have been able to refine our thoughts where necessary in hopes of executing an effective remote learning plan.

During our time away from school, the faculty and staff will continue to use Classroom Dojo to communicate with parents. Google Classroom will be the platform in which teachers will provide lessons, guidance and feedback for students. Students will be able to use this platform to complete and submit assignments and communicate with their teachers.  Google Classroom will also be the central location in which Art, Music, Physical Education and ST Math Teachers will provide enrichment activities.

Key Points

  • Our immediate goal is to develop a deeper understanding of previous standards and skills that were taught. This will be done through structured engagement and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

  • Students will be able to access Google Classroom by logging into their Clever account using their ID Code.

  • Each teacher will communicate with their students and direct them to their assignments through Google Classroom. Teachers will have posted work for the entire week each Monday.

  • As students complete work and submit it, teachers will provide feedback rather than grades.

  • All teachers including Special Education and ESL teachers have office hours Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  During this time, teachers are available for students or parents to reach out to them for assistance and/or guidance.

  • Students who receive services in Special Education and as English Language Learners will receive targeted and differentiated assignments and support directly from their Special Education and English Language Learning teachers through their homeroom Google Classroom.

  • Counselors are working to connect with students. If you need their support you may contact them directly via email.

Student holding completed homework and book

Third graders have been learning all about Venice with the book they are reading for Acceleration Academy at the Oliver Partnership School and they were excited to share what they discovered about that culture. Yoga and meditation was used to teach students how to relax and manage stress. Great idea!
