FAQ for Families of Students Remaining in Remote Learning

Q. Will school hours remain the same?

A. School day hours will remain the same for all students, whether learning in person or remotely:

  • Pre-kindergarten - kindergarten: AM 8:00am -10:30am / PM 12:00pm-2:30pm
  • Grades 1-8: 8:00am-1:30pm
  • Grades 9-12: 8:30am-2:30pm

Q. Will free Grab ’n Go lunches still be available to remote learners?

A. Yes, utilizing the same schools and the same Tuesday and Friday pick-up schedule. See Grab 'n Go schedule here

Q. How will my student’s school experience change?

A. Your student will still Zoom into class; however, they will now see some students learning remotely and see other students learning from inside the classroom, via a live stream. The educator will, in most cases, use a webcam allowing students at home to see both the educator and the classmates, to help foster participation.

Q. My student is temporarily learning from outside of Lawrence. Will I need to bring him/her back now?

A. If you plan to keep your child remote for the remainder of the year, and they are successfully attending and participating in their classes, they may continue to learn from outside of Lawrence for the remainder of the school year. They will be required to return for full in-person learning at the start of the next school year, or sooner if they are unsuccessful in their remote experience.

Q. What if we change our mind and want to switch to in-person learning?

A. We have indicated that your survey responses are binding, which helps us with planning. However, we know that circumstances change. We will make every effort to accommodate a request to shift to in-person, if preferred. The change in preference should be for the remainder of the year. Please contact your school directly to make this request.

Q. Why are remote students who have hotspots being asked to return them?

A. The district is switching vendors and the current Verizon ones will be turned off later this spring. Remote students who return their Verizon hotspot will receive a T-Mobile hotspot to use for the remainder of the school year.
